Reflections on a Foggy Morning

“Nothing gets my poetic creativity flowing like photographing water reflections in morning fog.”

Great Blue Heron in fog

I love that fog coats everything in moist dew, and love exploring compositions where foregrounds softly fade into backgrounds. It also melds together two of my favorite sounds: seagulls and foghorns.

On this foggy Seattle morning, I set out to make softened landscapes and discovered the quiet perfection of this lone Great Blue Heron fishing in an isolated pond. I locked my camera onto the ball head of my tripod because I knew I would be changing compositions and shooting at slow shutter speeds. Setting up this composition, I waited patiently until the heron was still, and the pond without ripples. I wanted a perfect reflection to add poetry to my composition. I’ll show lots of foggy images on this blog, each pointing out another technique. If landscapes, nature and originality inspire your creative appetite, I hope you’ll join me for a morning shoot in one of my location workshops.

I guarantee you’ll come away with pictures to be proud of.

I'd love to share my knowledge with you.
